CSA zero: scapes, tarragon, lifetimes of lettuce
This is an amalgamation of the last two weeks of CSA stuff, here’s what I got, here’s what I did:
Dried black beans (in the shell! very cool!) — Noah cooked them in the pressure cooker using this recipe from serious eats I think we only had enough beans for a half recipe, but it was still enough to eat bens for breakfast all week.
Lettuce (x2) — same salad dressing as last time, as well as this recipe from the NYT, which was like, fine, but I won’t be doing it again probably.
Dried red peppers — I used one in the mustard green stir fry, I haven’t used the others yet
curly cress — What is this? can you blanche it? Do you put it in a salad? I’m a bit lost with this one. I know what to do with water cress, but that looks… different.
Shelling Peas — I shelled them and put them in various things I made.
Swiss Chard — I made a lazy version of this recipe (which is to say I didn’t actually click the link, I just sort of remembered that you blanche the chard by dumping the pasta out over it, which Noah absolutely hated, and I thought was unobjectionable, if uninspired.)
French Tarragon — ??? who is she. what is she for? I saw something that was like “add it to vinegar” like, okay, I can do that I guess. I haven’t, but maybe I will.
Garlic scapes — I love the one or two times a year that my CSA gives me garlic scapes, because I love this recipe. I’ve never made it with the pork park, but it is great without it. I had it with some sweet and sour gluten (from Lily’s Vegan Pantry, of course) I just use the amount of garlic scapes I have on hand, and usually two medium carrots. I add a pinch of MSG, and typically don’t use chicken stock.
Mustard greens — stir fried, following this recipe from the woks of life. I dumped the leftovers into the next day’s stir fry, also from the woks of life. I am not creative.
Culinary lavender — Right now it’s hanging upside down in our kitchen drying. It makes it look like I am a fancy chef. I have no idea what to do with it, but god damnit, it’s drying!
Unfortunately I’m depressed, so the idea of like, cooking interesting things with my CSA is not really exciting to me, since I don’t enjoy the things I usually enjoy. Oh well!
